VIII National Meeting of Obitel Brazil – 2021
The VIII Obitel Brazil Meeting of Television Fiction Researchers was held remotely in 2021, under the theme “Creation and Innovation in Brazilian Television Fiction in Times of the Covid-19 Pandemic.” At the opening session, the biennial book was launched, with the presence of the Vice-Director of the School of Communications and Arts at the University of São Paulo – ECA/USP, Prof. Dr. Eduardo Henrique Soares Monteiro; the Head of the Department of Communications and Arts – CCA-ECA/USP, Drª. Claudia Lago; the Coordinator of the PPGCOM-ECA/USP, Drª. Maria Clotilde Perez; Globo’s Social Value Analyst, Adriana Afonsina; and the Coordinator of CETVN at ECA/USP, Drª. Maria Immacolata Vassallo de Lopes. Prof. Dr. Christian Dunker (Full Professor of Psychoanalysis and Psychopathology at the Institute of Psychology/USP) and Alex Medeiros (Leader of Original Productions at Globoplay/Grupo Globo) were the keynote speakers, moderated by Profª. Immacolata. On the following days, the Obitel Brazil groups presented their research in thematic panels.

VII National Meeting of Obitel Brazil – 2019
The VII Obitel Brazil Meeting of Television Fiction Researchers took place on November 5 and 6, 2019, at the School of Communications and Arts of the University of São Paulo (ECA-USP). At the opening session, the biennial book titled “World Building in Brazilian TV Fiction” was launched. Attending were Prof. Dr. Eduardo Henrique Soares Monteiro (ECA-USP) and Professors Drª. Maria Cristina Palma Mungioli (USP), Drª. Roseli Aparecida Figaro Paulino (CCA-USP), and Drª. Maria Immacolata Vassallo de Lopes (ECA-USP). The opening panel was completed by Globo’s Social Responsibility Director, Beatriz Azeredo. In addition to the thematic panels where the Obitel groups presented their works, there was a Globo panel with authors Thelma Guedes and Duca Rachid, Beatriz Azeredo, and screenwriter Ricardo Calil. On the second day, Profª. Drª. Mayra Rodrigues Gomes (ECA-USP) delivered the conference “Interdiscourse in Television Productions.”

VI National Meeting of Obitel Brazil – 2017
Celebrating 10 years of the Obitel Brazil Network, the VI Meeting of Television Fiction Researchers focused on fan practices within participatory culture. Alongside the launch of the biennial book, the event featured presentation panels where Obitel groups showcased their research, and a Globo debate panel titled “Genres, Narrative Arcs, and Socio-educational Actions: Cases of A Força do Querer and Sob Pressão.” Participants included Globo’s Social Responsibility Director Beatriz Azeredo, the final editor of Sob Pressão Lucas Paraizo, and miniseries author Manuela Dias. Screenwriter Rodrigo Fonseca moderated. The Obitel Yearbook 2017: A Decade of Television Fiction in Ibero-America. Analysis of Ten Years of Obitel was also launched. Matt Hills, from the University of Huddersfield, UK—one of the leading experts in fan culture—closed the event with the lecture “Contemporary Telefantasy Brands: From World-building to the ‘Fan World’?”

V National Meeting of Obitel Brazil – 2015
At the V Obitel Brazil Meeting of Television Fiction Researchers, the network launched the book “Towards a Theory of Fans of Brazilian Television Fiction.” The Obitel Brazil groups presented their works in thematic panels. That year also featured a commemorative panel honoring Globo’s 50th anniversary, with the presence of Mauro Alencar, Globo consultant and researcher, and Globo authors George Moura and Rodrigo Fonseca. Following this was the debate panel “Social Themes and Socio-educational Actions in Telenovelas,” with participants author Glória Perez, Globo’s Social Responsibility Director Beatriz Azeredo, founder of the social responsibility agency Comunicarte Marcio Schiavo, and Profª. Drª. Maria Immacolata Vassallo de Lopes (ECA-USP). The debate was moderated by Rodrigo Fonseca.

IV National Meeting of Obitel Brazil – 2013
The IV Obitel Brazil Meeting of Television Fiction Researchers addressed transmedia storytelling, with the launch of the book “Transmedia Strategies in Brazilian Television Fiction.” The opening panel featured Professors Drª. Margarida Kunsch (ECA-USP), Drª. Maria Immacolata Vassallo de Lopes, Drª. Roseli Fígaro (ECA-USP), as well as Globo’s Institutional Development Manager Viridiana Bertolini and IBOPE Media’s Learning & Insights Manager. At the close of the event, Professor and researcher Carlos Scolari from Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona presented the lecture “How to Research Transmedia Narratives?”

III National Meeting of Obitel Brazil – 2011
At the III National Meeting of Television Fiction Researchers in Brazil, Obitel Brazil launched the book “Transmedia Television Fiction in Brazil: Platforms, Convergence, Virtual Communities.” During thematic panels, groups presented their biennial research. Lectures were given by Mario Carlón, from the Gino Germani Institute at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), and Arlindo Machado (USP/PUC-SP).
